The Substantial Media platform strikes a balance between inspiration and information, traditional and digital, community, and family. Through photography, journalism, radio, podcasts, public television, and social media we amplify the positive stories within Black and brown communities. We also look to bring awareness to important issues affecting our communities on a local, state, and national level.
Substantial also looks to create a medium where the creativity run free. We want our contributors to tell their stories and the stories of others through mass media that has our best interests at heart. Through a diversified collection of outlets to include print, web, social, and broadcast media, we look to ensure we share with the world, just how Substantial we are.
Understanding the definition of the word Substantial is what gives us motivation and inspires us to continue this work. Of considerable importance, size, or worth. Strongly built and made. Important in material or social terms; wealthy. Concerning the essentials of something, real and tangible rather than imaginary. This one word “Substantial” sums up who we are as a minority community and we exist to ensure the world knows. Our motto simply stated: “We are substantial and so is our purpose.”
Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.” ~ Carter G. Woodson
To educate, inform, and empower those within the Black community to live out their full potential and purpose. To bring awareness and share with the world that which we’ve always known, that We Are Substantial and so are our stories, our communities, our businesses, our lives, and everything about us.
Substantial Magazine looks to strike a balance between inspiration and information, traditional and digital, community, and the private sector, through our creative concepts, photography and the written word, we celebrate the stories of the minority community. We also look to bring awareness to important issues affecting our communities on a local, state, and national level, while serving as a training ground for the next generation of multicultural leaders and media professionals.
